Priscilla Otti Empowers 1,000 Abia Public School Pupils with Educational Materials, Celebrates International Debate Champions
…As Safe Tent Care Initiative Partners ASUBEB to Promote Academic Excellence in Rural Communities
Abia State First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti has reaffirmed her commitment to educational development and academic excellence in Abia State through the distribution of essential school supplies to 1,000 outstanding pupils selected from 50 public schools across the state, with particular emphasis on rural communities.
The educational support programme, organised under the Safe Tent Care Initiative, forms part of the second edition of the annual Back-to-School Programme, themed “Raising the Standards, Rewarding Excellence.”
According to Mrs. Otti, the initiative is designed to encourage academic excellence, support pupils in public schools and reduce the educational challenges facing children, particularly those in underserved rural communities.

Speaking on the programme, she disclosed plans to expand the initiative to benefit more than 2,000 pupils in subsequent editions, ensuring that more children have access to essential learning materials.
The programme was organised in partnership with the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), under the leadership of its Chairman, Mrs. Ezihe Lydia Onuoha.
Mrs. Otti expressed appreciation to ASUBEB for its collaboration with Safe Tent Care Initiative, describing the partnership as an important contribution towards strengthening basic education and rewarding outstanding academic performance across the state.
Addressing the beneficiaries, she encouraged pupils to remain focused on their studies, maintain discipline and pursue their dreams with determination.
She also commended teachers and parents for their dedication, sacrifices and continued commitment to the academic and moral development of children.
A major highlight of the programme was the recognition and celebration of outstanding Abia public school students who represented the state and Nigeria at the 2026 International Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar, where they reportedly emerged victorious.
Mrs. Otti celebrated the students’ international achievement, noting that their success demonstrates the academic potential of children in public schools when given the necessary support, encouragement and opportunities.
The Back-to-School Programme also underscores the importance of collaboration between government educational institutions, nonprofit organisations, parents and communities in improving learning opportunities for children.
Reiterating her commitment to the future of Abia children, Mrs. Otti declared:
“Every investment in our children is an investment in a stronger Abia.”
The Safe Tent Care Initiative’s annual educational intervention continues to focus on supporting learning, recognising academic achievement and expanding opportunities for pupils, especially those in rural communities.
With plans to increase the number of beneficiaries beyond 2,000, the initiative aims to reach more public schools and encourage a culture of excellence, discipline and educational advancement throughout Abia State.
